ROYAL OAK, Mich. (FOX 2) - Royal Oak police are looking for not your typical hit and run suspect.
Last night police say a tractor trailer knocked down traffic lights Tuesday after it came through the busy intersection at 14 Mile and Coolidge. The intersection is now back open as of Wednesday afternoon, but police are still looking for that driver.
"Know how turn!" said Stephen Abroo, a clerk at the nearby BP gas station. "You have to make a wide turn for that he must not have been paying attention."
The driver took off and no one was hurt in the incident.
"They put a lot of people in danger," Abroo said. "People were driving over live electrical wires. It's not right."
Abroo's BP at the intersection, is typically really busy but not Wednesday. At 5:35 p.m. Tuesday evening, Royal Oak police started getting calls.
"It created quite a big traffic snarl," said Lt. Keith Spencer, Royal Oak police. "Bringing down all the traffic lights at that intersection at a busy time of day like it was, it got a lot of attention."
SkyFox was over the scene after a reported tan or beige colored semi-truck hit the pole taking out *all the lights there. By the time FOX 2 got there the truck driver was long gone and the damage still there.
Royal Oak police say they just want to speak with the truck driver to get their side of the story. They will complete their investigation before deciding if anyone should be charged.
