Tickets on sale now for 2019 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Detroit

The top figure skaters in the country will compete for next year's national title right here in Detroit this winter.

Detroit is hosting the U.S. Figure Skating Championships for the first time since 1994, when Nancy Kerrigan was attacked. Last year, the infamous attack was brought back into the national spotlight when an Academy Award-winning movie was made about Kerrigan's rival Tonya Harding, who's said to have planned the attack.

Those behind the upcoming 2019 Championship, though, are ready to move on and change the conversation.

"We're done with the days about talking about Nancy and Tonya and we're moving on to the future of U.S. figure skating," Kris Smith told us earlier this year. He's the director of the Detroit Sports Commission.

He says officials have been having the conversation of bringing the championship back to Detroit now for two years. It was no small task to get it done.

We're told the growth of downtown, coupled with the new arena, helped sell the committee when it came to choosing the location. Smith says it will bring millions of dollars of economic impact to the community.

The big event is January 29-27, 2019 at Little Caesars Arena.

Ticket packages and single-session tickets are available now, and start at just $15. You can get more information and buy tickets at www.2019uschampionships.com, www.313presents.com or the Little Caesars Arena box office.
