Detroit WNBA expansion team gets approval
The WNBA and NBA Board of Governors approved WNBA expansion teams in multiple cities, including Detroit. On April 9, the WNBA announced that WNBA expansion teams have been approved in Cleveland, Detroit, and Philadelphia. This comes after it was announced in 2025 that Lions QB Jared Goff, former Michigan great Chris Webber, and more were investing in trying to bring the WNBA back to Detroit. Pistons owner Tom Gores is leading a group of investors that have submitted the bid to add a WNBA expansion team.
