A cross county police chase leads to a gun fight and one man dead.
It all started during an attempted traffic stop in Warren when a parole absconder sent police on a pursuit that started in Warren and ended in Bloomfield Township Wednesday night.
Deviere Ernel Ransom's girlfriend contacted police because she had concerns he had a weapon, Warren Mayor Jim Fouts said.
The chase started at 12 Mile and Mound when officers attempted a traffic stop on Ransom, 24, because he was wanted for parole absconding and assault with a deadly weapon.
It then went to Troy where more officers got involved. At 11:40 p.m. Bloomfield public safety officers say the suspect was involved in an accident at Woodward and Square Lake Road.
Ransom tried to get away on foot when officers tried to stop him. A short distance from the accident scene Ransom pointed a handgun at officers and he was fatally shot at the scene.
Warren police say he exchanged gunfire with police before he was hit.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating what led to the fatal shots.
According to the Michigan Department of Corrections Website in 2013 Ransom was arrested for assault by strangulation. He was sentenced in 2014 and then paroled in December of that year.
The same month his supervision started but when he stopped reporting to his parole officer he became an absconder.
"It's horrible when anyone loses his life regardless of his background," Fouts said. "And I'm concerned about it that's why I'm looking for the report."
