Woodward Avenue through the years

It has long been the place to work to celebrate and to cruise. This is Woodward Avenue at Campus Martius in 1861 the presentation of colors to the First Michigan Infantry before heading off to fight in the Civil War. This is the group whom upon seeing them arrive in Washington a month later President Abraham Lincoln reportedly said "Thank God for Michigan."
