Atwater Brewery honors Detroit firefighters
On September 14th from 6-11PM at the Detroit Foundation Hotel, Atwater Brewery will dedicate their newest offering at the iconic former Detroit Fire Department headquarters. The event will feature the release of The Commissioner's Brew, a reliable and robust red lager inspired by the heroic legacy of Detroit Firefighters.
Acclaimed Detroit Artist Tony RoKo, whose unique style has become known as the face of Atwater Brewery's distinctive labels, has created a 6-foot tall, expressive portrayal of an early Detroit firefighter, which will be featured at the event and adorn the label of Atwater's newest beer. Depicting the bravery and nobility of these heroes, "The Commissioner" is framed with repurposed materials and collaged historic relics unique to the legacy of Detroit's courageous protectors.
"The Commissioner" will hang from August 16 through the evening of September 14 for the beer release celebration. The piece will then travel to Grand Rapids as RoKo's entry inArtPrize in honor of the internationally-renowned Detroit hotel. The piece will be on display from September 19th through October 7th at the Atwater's Grand Rapids location at 201 Michigan St NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.
