Local girl group featured on 'Empire'

A local girl group has been named FOX Empire's New Artist. The Detroit R&B trio, DMK, will be featured on the hit TV show May 11. They were chosen out of thousands of applicants.

DMK is made up of Damoli, 22, Melanee, 22 and Kourtney, 21. The girls have been honing their soulful harmonies and powerful voals together for more than 12 years now. The girls say they all sang in a play together and that there was a chemistry they couldn't deny.

As Detroit natives, their Motown roots run deep, and not just because of their affiliation with the city. Kourtney's grandfather is Levi Stubbs of the Legendary Motown group The Four Tops who has had a huge influence on the girls. Reminiscent of the 90's vocal group who is another influence for DMK; they've found a great musical balance of traditional and current R&B that merges perfectly with updated new jack swing rhythms.

You can get their EP on iTunes, and look for the girls on social media @DMKOfficial.

There will be a watch party for tonight's episode with DMK at Mo Betta Blues in Detroit. It starts at 8 p.m. Tonight's episode airs at 9 p.m. right here on FOX 2.
