Pure Michigan expert: Where to travel this summer

School gets out soon, and that means people will be hitting the road for summer vacations. It's no secret Michigan has plenty to offer in that department.

"People know about great places like Traverse City and Petosky and Charlevoix and all those beautiful places up north, but maybe what people haven't thought about for a while are the little hidden gems," says Travel Michigan's vice president, Dave Lorenz. "It just takes a tank full of gas to get there and back, to places like The Thumb."

He suggests kayaking Turnip Rock in Port Austin, or visiting cities like Tawas or Oscoda, or taking a shipwreck tour in Alpena's Thunder Bay.
