A 5-year-old was fatally run over by his mother in Pontiac Wednesday.
Police say the 25-year-old mother was driving her Chevrolet Uplander north on Kettering Avenue near Newman Court at 4:46 p.m. The driver told police that she heard heard one of her children call out to her. As the driver slowed down to come to a stop she heard a thump.
She got out of her vehicle and found she ran over her 5-year-old son. Her son was transported to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac where he was pronounced dead.
Police say narcotics did not appear to be a factor in the crash, which is under investigation. There is no word yet on charges for the parent.
Last week another fatal accident took the life of a baby on the city's west side in Detroit, on Westmoreland Street. In that case a mother ran over her infant who just learned to walk. No charges were announced in that case.
