A fatal eight vehicle crash has caused a closure of east bound I-94 at 23 Mile Road.

Police say multiple vehicles are involved including a semi truck and there is one fatality. The closure lasted several hours, but the freeway was expected to be reopened at 9:30 p.m.

At least a dozen first responder vehicles are at the scene as all lanes of traffic are blocked. It is unclear what caused the crash at this time.

Five other drivers suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Video shot by FOX 2 viewer Lexi LaBelle above shows a semi truck and at least one truck and SUV on fire on the freeway. A second video was submitted by viewer Sean Carr showing a bright fireball in the distance at the scene of the crash.
