Dangerous crumbling house has neighbors worried
A dangerous eyesore is frustrating residents in one Detroit neighborhood as neighbors say they have called the city time after time, to no avail.
Kaylynn Brown and her neighbors say they've found a lot of problems with the house next door.
"My room is actually at the top, and it could either fall down or it could fall over," Brown said. "I could be asleep one day and that could happen and I could wake up dead or something."
"You don't know (where it will fall) when it does fall," said Valerie Swafford.
Residents say the house had been ransacked and Tuesday morning, they woke up to find another concern. the brick wall started bowing just a day ago. According to neighbors a pillar on the other side is also crumbling, meaning it could be a matter of days before it collapses.
FOX 2 called the city for answers and a few hours after being made aware, the house was condemned.
"We had building safety come out," said Marshall Bullock, community affairs coordinator. "The wall needs to be secured, but the rest of the house is sound."
The brick wall will be fixed in the next 48 hours according to city officials.
"Because this is the hardest hit area, the house will then go to the pipeline of whether it needs to be demolished or it can be salvaged," Bullock said. "I don't want to speculate on what the expert is going to say, but it looks pretty bad."
Brown is happy with the city's response time and hopeful for a change.
