The sudden closure of a Detroit charter school came Wednesday morning that nearly 200 students are now left without a school.

Imagine going to school one day - only to find out that the Board of Education closed it the next day.

"We all have to find new schools now," said Daquan Raheen.

It was chaos for the high school students at Detroit Delta Prep Academy, a nonprofit charter school near Midtown after finding out the school is closing Oct. 1.

"Only thing they were talking about is money - and we care about our education," said one student.

And money is an issue. Delta Prep Academy is authorized by Ferris State University. A representative of Ferris said Delta originally budgeted for 265 students - yet only 180 attend.

FOX 2: "What happened to the money?"

"We have no clue," said Fran Taylor, the grandmother of a student. "The money should be used for what it was allocated for."

FOX 2: "Do you think there is a possibility of funny business going on?"

"There is a possibility," she said.

FOX 2 spoke with Tyler Shaw of Equity Education Management Company, who runs Delta.

FOX 2: You run the schools. The board closed down because of money issues are they blaming you?

Tyler Shaw: You would have to speak to the board about that."

Though there has been no official comment from the board, the board said the school is closed "now" so the students can relocate to another school by Oct. 3, which is count day for public schools. Those days determine funding.

"I'm second in my 11th grade class, I was about to be eight in the National Honor Society. And now you want to kick me out of school," said Jela Holt.

Equity said that they will use their best efforts to find jobs for staff and teachers. As for the students, they will try to send students to other equity schools but there could be a problem.

"One is in Dearborn the other is on the east side. I'm not sure either one of them is good. Sometimes you have to go another route and send them out of the district," Taylor said.
