A beloved family dog was stolen outside a grocery store in Bloomfield Township.
Now the family is offering a $1,000 reward for their pet's safe return.
Kodi the 10-month Siberian Husky had a wonderful home with the Barnett family in Bloomfield Township. He had nightly walks to the neighborhood Kroger at Telegraph and Long Lake to see Santa and help him raise money for the Salvation Army.
Santa watched him while his owner went in to shop.
"A wonderful dog, well-mannered - I think in the 15 minutes (Kodi) was here, he brought in an extra $25 - $30," said Santa Claus. "He's just such a wonderful dog and everybody knows him and everybody comes out to visit him. All the employees do."
But Monday Santa took his one and only day off this entire holiday season and when Chris Barnett arrived with Kodi about 7 p.m. no one was there to watch him while he ran inside.
"I tied him up outside the Kroger," Barnett said. "I ran in and got a few things and when I came back out he was gone."
"A woman that was walking out said she had seen a person walk to a Jeep Wrangler with the dog and put him in the Wrangler."
That person described as a white male in his 20s.
