FERNDALE (FOX 2) - Ferndale's busiest parking lot is now closed in preparation for a 12-15-month construction project.
While the city's residents will be left without a place to park for the next year, what will replace the lot is a mixed-use structure providing three times as much parking.
The estimated $28 million project will be partly funded by a possible rake height at parking meters around the city, a doubled increase from $.50 to $1.
"I think overall, while it may hurt a little bit in the short term, in the long term, there's going to be a lot of gain from this project," said Barry Hicks, from the Ferndale Dtwon Dev Athroity.
