Iran latest: US and Iran reach deal to extend ceasefire pending approval by Trump, sources

For the second time this week, the United States military conducted defensive strikes on Iranian targets as leaders of the two nations continue to negotiate a long-term peace deal.

Four one-way attack drones that threatened the Strait of Hormuz were shot down by American forces on Wednesday, U.S. officials told the Associated Press. An Iranian ground control station that housed a fifth drone was also struck.

Earlier in the day, President Donald Trump hosted a Cabinet meeting where he accused Iranian leaders of trying to "outwait" him and delaying peace talks. However, he added that Tehran is "negotiating on fumes."

Trump also pledged that, when a final settlement comes, no nation will control the Strait of Hormuz, declaring it international waters.

Ceasefire to be extended

12:32 p.m. ET: The United States and Iran have reached a deal to extend the ceasefire between the two nations for 60 days. According to reporting from FOX News, the deal to extend the ceasefire would allow more time for further nuclear negotiations. 

Sources tell FOX News, the tentative agreement is pending approval by President Trump. 

111 ships have been redirected at blockade

9:06 a.m. ET: United States Central Command has updated the number of shipping vessels that have been turned around at the blockade in the Arabian Sea. 

A total of 111 Iranian-flagged ships have been redirected from the Strait of Hormuz, according to CENTCOM. 

US says Iran violated ceasefire

7:04 a.m. ET: United States Central Command said Iran violated the ceasefire with the missile attacks on Kuwait. 

Kuwaiti forces managed to intercept the ballistic missile launched by Iran, according to CENTCOM. 

Hours earlier, the U.S. accused Iran of launching attack drones in and near the Strait of Hormuz, which were all struck down.

6:27 a.m. ET: Kuwait's military said on Thursday they were hit with missile and drone attacks. No details on the locations that were attacked were released. 

Iran later admitted to an attack in the region but neglected to state exactly what was targeted.
