Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Demetrius Peals, 22, and Kinesha Boyd, 20, both of Detroit in connection with the fatal shooting of Boyd's three-year-old son Kyrei Boyd.

On December 6, at 7:20 p.m. medics were called to an apartment shared by Boyd and Peals to transport Boyd's son for treatment for a gunshot wound to the face.

Kyrei was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police believe that Peal left a loaded firearm accessible to Kyrei while the child was in his care and a resident of his household.

It is also believed that Peal knowingly and intentionally tampered with the evidence.

It is alleged that Boyd failed to provide a safe environment for her child and permitted Peals, a person known to carry a gun in the home to have access to her child.

Peals is facing a number of charges including involuntary manslaughter and second degree child abuse.

The investigation for this is ongoing.
