DETROIT (WJBK) - Detroit police are looking for a 25-year-old man who they say assaulted his mother early Monday morning, leading to a barricaded situation that lasted overnight in a neighborhood on the city's west side.
Police say they were called to a home around 12:30 a.m. in the 15000 block of Freeland Street, which is near Hubbell and Puritan avenues. Police say they finally entered the home just before 7 a.m. and the man they thought was barricaded inside with a weapon, Darnell Stevenson, wasn't there.
Police went to the home after they were notified that Stevenson got into an argument with his mother, and choked her and punched her in the face. He then grabbed a gun, and his mother thought he locked himself in a back bedroom. She called police and got out of the house safely.
Police initied a barricaded gunman situation, and were at the house overnight. They used flashbangs, a chemical agent, to try to get him out of the home. FOX 2 also heard loud sirens, and authorities attempting to talk to the suspect via a loudspeaker.
Authorities haven't said at this time if the man was ever barricaded inside the house, or if he managed to escape at some point.
