The victim, Sam Woodard, died from the crash.

Police hope surveillance video will help solve a heartless hit and run in Detroit. The driver slammed into a man in a wheelchair leaving him dead in the road.

Detroit Police are releasing new video, hoping you can help in their search for the suspect.

The video shows the final moments before impact, as a dark blue Dodge Durango blows through a red light on Livernois at Lyndon at 6:20 p.m. Tuesday. The victim, identified as 60-year-old Sam Woodard, was crossing Livernois in a motorized wheelchair and had the right-of way according to police.

Police say the license plate of the dark blue Dodge Durango is CMN-3238 and the model is thought to be between 2005-2010. It also may have a cracked front headlight.

"He just loved everyone," said Jason Matthews, the victim's nephew. "He loved all the kids in this neighborhood. This guy had the biggest heart ever."

Family members are still stunned. And disgusted that the driver fled the scene. One of the victim's nephews was at a nearby store with Sam only moments before he was killed.

"And about 10 minutes later, someone called and said someone in a wheelchair got hit, we went up there and it was him," said Carlos, the victim's nephew.

Police so far describe the driver is an African-American male.

"It should be known that the car has been reported stolen, so we're asking our citizens to please come forward with any information they have," said Jennifer Watson, spokesperson for the Detroit police.

Family members are also urging the public for tips.

"It's going to haunt you for the rest of your life," Matthews said. "You killed a great guy. Just turn yourself in."

Even offering to give forgiveness.

"Help the family get a little closure," Carlos said. "If you hit him by mistake or whatever it is."
