Be prepared to stop. Construction crews are beginning work on Mound Road this week, along a stretch that has arguably been called the worst in the metro area, let alone Macomb County.

The resurfacing project will eventually cover 14 Mile to 18 Mile, but the first phase will tackle just 14 Mile to 16 Mile.

This isn't a permanent fix, but should last 6-10 years. In that time, funding will be secured for the bigger, longer-lasting fix.

This current resurfacing project is a $12 million split between Sterling Heights and the county, and the majority of it will be reimbursed by the federal government.

Construction begins Monday, July 2. The current project will last into October.

Two lanes will still always be open during the construction so you'll still be able to use Mound Road.
