11 hospitalized after Monroe County bus crash

The Michigan Department of Transportation said southbound I-75 was shut down after Nadeau Rd at Exit 18 in Monroe County. The road was eventually reopened just after 10 p.m.

Nearly a dozen people were taken to the hospital after a car crash involving a limousine bus Thursday evening.

What they're saying:

The Michigan Department of Transportation said southbound I-75 was shut down after Nadeau Rd at Exit 18 in Monroe County. The road was eventually reopened just after 10 p.m.

Eleven passengers were taken to the hospital, both in Monroe and Toledo. That number was given shortly after the crash happened.

People who were at the scene said it appears a majority of the victims were around 18 and 19 years old.

Dig deeper:

FOX 2 crews were there and could see the limo bus through the trees, where it veered off the highway.

It's unclear what caused the bus to go off the road, but FOX 2 was told it was the only vehicle that crashed.

Police sources tell us the vehicle was registered out of Detroit and not registered or licensed to carry passengers.

In addition to those injuries, there was a massive traffic backup because of the crash, especially with semi-trucks searching for alternate routes for hours Thursday night.

Michigan State Police are taking over this investigation, which will include trying to determine if drugs or alcohol played a role or what happened.
