Semi rolls over on I-94 near Detroit airport, ramp closed

A semi truck driver lost control and rolled over on I-94 near the Detroit airport, now the exit to the airport is closed.

Michigan State Police said the truck was heading east on I-94 around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday when the driver lost control.

What they're saying:

Police said the driver crashed into the center median guardrail and then continued through the westbound lanes and down onto Merriman Road.

The driver was checked at the scene for minor injuries.

"This crash could have been a lot worse. We were lucky there was not any traffic on Merriman when the crash occurred." said First Lt. Mike Shaw. "This serves as another reminder to drive a safe and prudent speed. It is every driver’s responsibility to maintain control of their vehicle."

MSP said it will take about two hours to clean up the mess and the exit from the westbound lanes of the freeway is closed.

What we don't know:

Police did not say what caused the driver to lose control.
