Semi-truck crashes into median closing I-696 at Southfield, Greenfield

(WJBK) - WEB UPDATE (10:30 p.m.): East bound I-696 at Southfield is now open.

A jack-knifed semi-truck that hit a median wall on I-696 is causing gridlock at the tail end of rush hour.

The truck is laying on its side at the median wall with one minor injury following a crash. Michigan State Police have set up multiple closures as the scene is cleaned up: 

West bound and east bound I-696 is closed at Southfield and Greenfield.

"It is going to be a mess for hours," said Lt. Michael Shaw.
