A wife and mother was killed, allegedly at the hands of her husband -- who then turned the gun on himself.
The Macomb County woman calls 911 during a domestic dispute but help could not come soon enough. She died from the shooting, but her suspect survived that gunshot wound and is now facing murder charges.
"The dispatcher was getting information, putting it in the computer, then you heard shots, then you didn't hear anything," said Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham.
The 911 call starts with Ebony Renee Byrom telling her husband Hal Diallo Byrom that he needs to leave the home.
"No, you need to leave, I'm not leaving, I have a child here," she is heard saying.
Then you hear a dispatcher trying to get information
Operator: "What's going on?"
"We just had a dispute, I want him to leave we can do this another day," Ebony said.
The dispatcher starts asking questions about any weapons inside the home.
Operator: "Do you know if it's locked up?"
"No, it's not," Ebony said.
"She was very calm in her demeanor she was just asking for assistance," Wickersham said. "She just wanted him to leave for the night."
But officials say about 10 seconds later, multiple gunshots are heard on the call.
That's when 38-year-old Byrom was shot and killed by her husband.. Hal Diallo Byrom around 1 a.m. Saturday morning.
Deputies rushed to the scene and that's when they received a second 911 call from the victim's 16-year-old son who was inside the home when the fatal shots were fired.
"And he started to provide information and our deputies instructed him on what to do and how to get out of house safely," Wickersham said.
Officials say Byrom's 44-year old husband also turned the gun on himself, shooting himself in the neck
"He's unable to talk at this time," Wickersham said. "He's going to be charged with murder and felony firearm. Our detectives are working with the court right now to swear to that warrant and get him arraigned at his hospital bed."
Detectives are still looking into what led up to this fatal shooting. They plan to talk to family members and get more information from the victim's son.
"The son was in his bedroom playing video games and told investigators he heard multiple gunshots," Wickersham said.
Fox 2 spoke with Ebony's family and they released this statement:
"Please pray for the family and respect our privacy. We are still waiting on information for the medical examiner's office."
Officials say they had not responded to the couple's house before and are working to gather as much evidence as possible to support their case.
"Our job is to make sure we have all our evidence collected," Wickersham said. "So that when this goes to trial we get our conviction."
