A suspect runs from Ann Arbor police gets in a car with a man and two small children - and then takes off with them inside with chase speeds reaching 100 miles per hour.

Police aren’t just working this carjacking case they’re also trying to solve a homicide from last week there was more police activity not far from the murder... let me walk you through it.

This Wednesday night at about 10:45 p.m., police say a suspect got in a car with a man and two kids ages 2 and 4, and took off.

The suspect was running from Ann Arbor police after walking in on them searching a house in the 3500 block of S. State Street. He then led police on a high speed chase, topping 100 miles per hour before ditching the car in a neighborhood east of Ann Arbor.

The initial incident was caught on gas station surveillance but the gas station worker refused the request, saying the Ann Arbor police told the station not to.

The car the suspect took registered to a home outside of Ann Arbor, but no one was home when FOX 2 arrived.

Police are still searching for the suspect but they’re not releasing a description right now. The man, and two children who were carjacked, are physically unharmed - but likely shaken up.

First there was a homicide last week, then in the same neighborhood on Eli Drive, SWAT was called in. A man wanted on a felony was barricaded inside.

He wouldn't come out but eventually surrendered peacefully but it was still unsettling considering the proximity of these incidents.

The homicide and barricaded situation are unrelated, according to police.
