Trump, Clinton hold commanding leads in Mitchell/FOX 2 poll

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are both holding large leads as the Michigan Presidential Primary grows closer, according to new polling from Mitchell and FOX 2.

The latest poll from Mitchell/FOX 2 Detroit shows Donald Trump is maintaining a sizable lead over other Republican hopefuls but Ohio Governor John Kasich is gaining some ground.

Trump’s 2:1 margin of the vote is now almost 4:1. Trump (41%) is at the top with his three closest rivals Ohio Governor John Kasich (11%), Texas U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (11%) and Florida U.S; Senator Marco Rubio (10%) bunched in a tie for second in the latest Mitchell/FOX 2 Detroit. The poll was conducted after Monday's debate in South Carolina.

The four leading candidates are followed by Dr. Ben Carson (7%), and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (5%), with 14% undecided.

“Kasich’s New Hampshire Primary win, coupled with his campaigning in Michigan, has moved him into a tie for second place with Cruz and Rubio, making Trump the real beneficiary of his emergence as a stronger candidate. The longer the field is muddled up with three viable alternatives to Trump, the stronger Trump looks. Both Cruz and Rubio have dropped in Michigan with Kasich’s improving fortunes. That makes the margin for Trump even greater than two weeks ago,” Steve Mitchell, CEO of Mitchell Research & Communications said.

On the Democratic side of the ticket, Hillary Clinton has grown her lead by six percent in two weeks. She's up to 60% vs Bernie Sanders' 27%. 14% of Democrats pulled remain undecided.

“Hillary Clinton continues to lead Bernie Sanders by a large margin even after her defeat in New Hampshire. Her lead even increased by 4% in the recent poll on February 15th. Bernie Sanders numbers however do remain consistent in polling from February 5th, only varying by 1%. Her consistent lead puts her in a strong position to win on March 8th in Michigan,” Mitchell said.
