FERNDALE, Mich. (WJBK) - A mother arrested accused of driving drunk in Ferndale. When police pulled her over they found two booze bottles and her three young children in the car.
According to police a Ferndale officer spotted a woman driving 57 in a 40 mile an hour zone on Eight Mile and pulled her over at 2:30 a.m. Aug. 9. What he didn't know is she had her three kids in the car - and she had been drinking.
Dash camera footage of the traffic stop that night was released showing 28-year-old Nicole Webb of Eastpointe.
Webb tells the officer she is in a hurry to get to her ex-boyfriend's house. The officer glances in the backseat of her car with his flashlight, noticing three kids back there.
The officer's next move is to give a field sobriety test with the alphabet, where Webb appears to struggle to complete.
Next was counting.
Police: "Start at 100, go back to 80."
Webb: "I'm bad at that. I'm backwards as it is."
That was followed by a test of her balance.
Police: "You are going to touch your heel to your toe."
Webb: "Oh, like I’m on the balance beam."
And lastly a Breathalyzer
Webb: "What's the legal limit? .08."
Which police say she failed.
Police: "Right now you are at .12. You are under arrest."
As one officer places her in her custody, another pulls out an empty bottle of Apple Schnapps - then they pull out three small children from the backseat. Ages 4, 3, and 1. Police say only the 1-year-old was in a car seat.
Webb was charged with driving under the influence with children in the car and open intoxicants.
Her children were placed in their care of another relative.
