DETROIT (WJBK) - A 42-year-old woman was fatally shot in the area of Eight Mile and Ryan Wednesday night.
She was in her car on her way to pick her 11-year-old son up, when a suspect approached and shot her in the head at Eight Mile and Sunset, police said.
Her son was dropped off by a school bus from an athletic event to the Light Guard Armory and saw the suspect standing near his mother's car.
She drove off with her son and stopped a short distance away. She then asked a passerby to call 911 before collapsing.
The boy gave police a description of the suspect, but his mother died on the way to a nearby hospital.
Investigators arrested the suspect, 17 years old, at a nearby bus stop and a weapon recovered nearby.
A police spokesperson said the victim's son gave a brave description of the suspect helping lead to the arrest.
