“You’ll always be a part of me”: metro-Detroit sisters celebrate kidney transplant anniversary.
Two sisters are celebrating a special milestone together: the 40th anniversary of one donating their kidney to the other. On average, a kidney from a living donor lasts about 18 to 20 years. Some will last longer; others might last less. Teresa Rouse, one of Corewell Health’s longest living transplant recipients, is 75 and lives in Ortonville, and her sister/living donor, Robin Wright, is 71 and lives in Waterford. Each year, on their transplant anniversary, they do something special together to celebrate. In the past, they’ve gone to dinners, traveled to Chicago and Vegas and this year, they plan to go to Soaring Eagle for some gambling and a show.
