Dealt tough cards all his life, Supreme Court Justice Bernstein takes on Detroit maraton
After making it onto the Supreme Court despite being blind, Justice Richard Bernstein would be marred with another obstacle. Seven years ago, he was hit by a bicyclist in New York's Central Park, his pelvis and hip were shattered. He said the pain was at an "indescribable level" and forced him to learn how to walk again. While you never heal from injuries this severe, Bernstein said you learn to adapt to your new life as you tackle new challenges. His next challenge is completing the Detroit Free Press and TCF Bank Marathon this October.
