A family has filed a federal lawsuit against the Sterling Heights Police Department and an officer over an arrest they argue was racially motivated when it took place in April 2019. Dashcam footage shows an officer approach an unknown individual under a business plaza awning and asking for identification. Upon refusal, tempers flared when the officer eventually arrested the person. All charges would eventually be dropped.
