First responders recount Detroit River Rescue
Strong storms, capsized boats, and rescues underway — it all happened last Wednesday on the Detroit River. Within seconds, seven boats had capsized. Detroit firefighters, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Detroit Police Harbormaster say seven sailboats overturned in the area beyond the Belle Isle Bridge. They sprang into action, along with other boaters, to help those in the water.
