Local mom spotlights early signs of infantile spasms

Just before six months old, Detroit based infant Carlton Fowlkes began having subtle but concerning, jerk-like movements. His parents trusted their instincts, recorded a video, and shared it with their pediatrician, who immediately recognized the warning signs. Carlton was evaluated at Corewell Health Children’s Hospital and diagnosed. Thanks to rapid, coordinated care and prompt treatment, Carlton’s outcome has been remarkable. Now 14 months old, he is thriving — walking, talking, and meeting all developmental milestones, with normal brain activity. He gets to simply be a toddler – one who loves exploring, playing with instruments and watching good ‘ole Sesame Street.
