Award-winning jazz artist to teach, perform with Michigan State students

(WJBK) - Award-winning jazz pianist Kenny Barron is slated to visit Michigan State University this week for seven days of teaching, workshops and campus concerts.

Barron will spend February 8 through 14 in East Lansing participating in the MSU Federal Credit Union Jazz Artists in Residence program. Throughout the week, Barron will instruct, tour and perform with MSU Jazz Octets.

"I'm looking forward to working with the young students," Barron said. "They're really incredible."

The student musicians and their visiting resident plan to stop by music programs at public schools and academies in Oxford, East Lansing, Fowlerville, Williamston, Hastings and Detroit. The residency program is funded by a $1 million endowment from the MSU Federal Credit Union.

Barron will also perform for the public at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on February 12 at MSU's Cook Recital Hall. For more information about the show, click here, and to learn more about Whitaker, click here.
