Komen 3-Day Breast Cancer walk kicks off Friday
(WJBK) - Hundreds are coming together in metro Detroit to fight breast cancer. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk kicks off Friday morning.
It's a 60-mile walk for those who want to do something to help end breast cancer. Walkers train and fundraise months in advance to prepare for the event. Walkers raise a minimum of $2,300 and walk an average of 20 miles a day for three consecutive days while educating tens of thousands of people about breast health with each step. These funds have helped Susan G. Komen lead the global breast cancer movement, with more than $2.6 billion invested in the fight against breast cancer to date.
Michigan-area residents are encouraged to visit designated 3-Day public stops along the route to encourage participants. Here are the public cheering station locations:
