Teen starts nonprofit collecting prom dresses for Detroit students

Dani Lutz, 16, is a junior at Groves High School in Southfield. She's the founder of the nonprofit reWEARable, which collects new, gently used dresses, shoes and accessories for girls in Detroit who need them for prom.

This week, her nonprofit is giving away hundreds of dresses at The Detroit School of Arts. She's collected 600 dresses, surpassing her goal of 500.

Dani joined us in studio to tell us more about her efforts, and the big dress giveaway. You can hear from her in the video player above.

reWEARable accepts donations of shoes, dresses, short or long, costume jewelry, purses, shawls, and little black dresses are always a hit. Collections will be taken through the year.
