Use your Michigan apples to make this caramel apple sticky roll recipe

Apple season is upon us. Michigan is one of the top producing states of the fruit, ringing in more than 900 million pounds. They can be used in so many recipes, from cobblers to pies and even martinis.

Chef Rebecca Waldron from Busch's Fresh Food Market joined us in the FOX 2 Cooking School to share an easy but unique apple recipe with us: caramel apple sticky buns. You can watch in the video player above as she shows us what to do.

This recipe is great, she says, because it's easy to put together but it looks it took a lot of work.

The caramel (which requires only a sauce pan and a spatula to make) sits at the bottom of your cake pan and serves as the base. Then, you use fresh or frozen pizza dough for the sticky rolls. Grated apples go into a bowl with sugar, some butter, cinnamon and pecans. That mixture goes on top of the spread-out dough, which gets rolled into a log and sliced into the separate rolls. Voilà!

Some tips from Chef Rebecca: if your dough is stubborn, just let it relax for a few minutes and let it "take a break" and then try again. Also, when you're cutting your log into the 16 slices, start in the middle and cul in halves from there so you end up with even slices.
