2 injured, suspect in custody after shooting at West Bloomfield apartment, liquor store

Two people were injured and one person is in custody following shootings at an apartment complex and a liquor store in West Bloomfield on Saturday morning, police said.

Timeline:

The shootings occurred just before 9 a.m. in the area of Maple and Farmington roads.

According to West Bloomfield Police Chief Dale Young, a female resident of the Thornberry Apartment Complex called police to report that another resident attempted to force his way into an apartment with what was later determined to be a rifle.

Officers were immediately dispatched and began searching for the suspect.

At about 9:04 a.m., police received a call from a family member of an employee at the Maple View liquor store stating the employee had been shot and was driving himself to the hospital. Police said the suspect is a former employee of the store.

Additional officers were sent to the hospital to check on the victim. While en route, dispatch received additional calls around 9:09 a.m. reporting gunshots at the Thornberry complex. Police said the suspect fired into an apartment, striking the female resident.

Officers later located the suspect driving in the area. He stopped, exited the vehicle with a rifle and was ordered to drop the weapon. The suspect complied and was taken into custody.

A man and a woman suffered nonfatal gunshot wounds and are being treated at area hospitals. Further details about their conditions have not been released.
