1 dead in accident at Garfield and 19 Mile Road

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) - Police have confirmed one person has died in an accident Tuesday morning on Garfield Road near 19 Mile Road. Both sides of Garfield Road are still closed as police continue to clear the scene.

Police believe the driver ran a red light and crashed into the trailer of a semi, sheering off the top of the car as it became lodged underneath. That driver has died. The driver of the semi is uninjured.

One man in the area told FOX 2's Hannah Saunders the accident sounded like an explosion.
