2 killed in weed deal gone bad in Pontiac apartment

An armed robbery attempt in Pontiac left both the victim and the suspect dead.

You can still see bullet holes in the doorway where the shootout happened, causing a young father to lose his life. Oakland County Sheriff's deputies say it was all over a bag of marijuana.

Investigators say the shooting happened at the Spring Lake apartments near Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and M-59 in Pontiac.

When deputies got to the complex, they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds in the doorway. Friends told us 21-year-old Anthony Rodgers died right there.

A short time later Saturday night, Oakland County Sheriff's deputies responded to the emergency room at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital to another gunshot victim, a 30-year-old man. They found out he was linked to the murder of Rodgers in a drug deal gone bad.

Police say the 30-year-old man came to Rodgers' home and tried to steal his marijuana. That's when he allegedly shot Rodgers, who we're told was able to return fire at the man before he died.

The suspect was picked up by an unknown driver and dropped off at the hospital, where he later died, too.

Friends of Rodger say he has a young son and lives with his girlfriend in the complex. They're calling this a dark time for the neighborhood.
