ANN ARBOR, Mich. (FOX 2) - A road on the south side of Ann Arbor had a large police presence as DTE worked to fix a gas leak.
What they're saying:
DTE told FOX 2 that on Thursday evening, a third-party crew was doing work on a gas line on Ellsworth Road near State Street when they struck one of DTE's gas lines. That was when a leak, which caused mud to spray from the ground, led to DTE repair crews arriving on scene and police to divert traffic from the area.
The University of Michigan Division of Public Safety & Security on Facebook sent out an alert telling students and staff to avoid the area.
They confirmed there was no explosion and no homes were affected as far as the natural gas goes. The gas was never shut off and DTE said there was an obvious odor. However, there was no danger to the public.
DTE crews were able to stop the leak, and they hope to have it repaired by late Thursday night.
