Hamtramck police chief suspended after whistleblower allegations
His suspension comes after a whistleblower anonymously sent a detailed email of allegations to higher-ups in the city, after reporting that information to Michigan State Police. The email from the whistleblower was obtained by FOX 2.
HAMTRAMCK, Mich. (FOX 2) - The Chief of Police for Hamtramck has been suspended with pay, sources told FOX 2 on Wednesday.
Hamtramck Police Chief Jamiel Altaheri is suspended after serving just over a year.
Altaheri was sworn in as the new chief of police in May 2024, after serving in the New York Police Department.

The details describe potential violations of department policy and the law, but specifics are not made public.
There are implications that include Altaheri’s involvement in a potential presidential pardon of a wealthy New York City financier who had been convicted of a financial crime and was a friend of Altaheri.
Another concern questions Altaheri’s involvement in an investigation into election fraud in Hamtramck.
City Manager Max Garbarino, who suspended the chief, could not comment on the ongoing investigation.
Attempts to reach Altaheri at his home and by phone were unsuccessful as of May 21.
