Homemade cannon explodes killing western Michigan man

CROTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A western Michigan man has died after a homemade cannon exploded while he was shooting it.

The incident happened on Sunday. Michigan State Police said in a release that a piece of metal may have struck 46-year-old Anthony Michael Herman in the chest.

Herman, of Howard City, was pronounced dead about 11:30 p.m. Sunday at the scene in Newaygo County’s Croton Township, north of Grand Rapids.

Officials were called to a home in Croton Township at about 10:46 p.m. Sunday. The 911 caller reported that Herman was in cardiac arrest, according to FOX 17 West Michigan.
