Identity of man killed after fighting with deputy in Monroe County released

The scene in the 6300 block of Exeter Township Dec. 28. 

An officer was injured and a suspect killed following a fight in Exeter Township Saturday morning. 

Officers were called to locations in London Township, and the 6300 block of Bluebush Road in Exeter Township to investigate a "suspicious" man Saturday morning. The London Township call was just before 11 a.m., with the Exeter Township call coming in at 11:30 a.m. 

According to Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough, the suspect "immediately engaged and began physically assaulting," a Monroe County Deputy Sheriff when they arrived. During the scuffle the deputy discharged his gun, killing the suspect. 

The suspect is Brian Donald Miller, 47, from Willis, Michigan. At the time of the fight, he had a warrant out for his arrest in Washtenaw County for failure to appear in court. The court case was for larceny and a resisting law enforcement charge. 

The deputy was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

The incident is currently under investigation by members of the Oakland County Sheriff's Office who were immediately contacted to conduct an independent review of the incident.
