Man killed in carjacking, hit and run in Waterford

A woman is in custody after a man was killed during a carjacking Sunday in Waterford.

Police say the victim was run over by his own vehicle during the carjacking. 

Ruth Pozdol, 38, was arrested late Sunday night after a traffic stop in Walled Lake. 

Waterford Police say they responded to a Burger King near M-59 and Williams Lake Road Sunday around 11 a.m. for the report of a carjacking. 

Arriving Officers spoke with witnesses who told police a white female suspect was attempting to drive away in the victim's 2001 Chevy pick-up truck when the 76-year-old male victim attempted to stop her. 

The man, identified as Clifford Van Haywald, was struck by his own vehicle driven by the suspect before fleeing the scene.

Haywald was pronounced deceased at a local hospital shortly after the incident. 

The stolen vehicle is a 2001 Chevy Pick-up, red in color with a Michigan plate of CGN-7187, with a black tonneau cover.
