Man shot, killed in front of his house

Detroit Police are investigating after a man was shot and killed on the city's east side.

The victim, 35-year-old Sherod Evans, was sitting in his car around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday outside his house in the 17,400 block of Fleming Street, which is near McNichols Road and Dequindre Street. That's when police say someone across the street opened fire. Evans was struck in the head and killed.

His family tells FOX 2 that he had just received his Associates Degree, making him the first person in their family to graduate college.

"He was a good father and we all love him and we're going to miss him," says his mother, Rhonda Evans.

Detroit Police do not have much of a description to go off of. They say a person in dark-colored clothes ran into an alley after the shooting. Police brought in a K-9 unit to try and track down the suspect but was not able to.

If you know anything about this shooting, you're asked to call Detroit Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
