Naked, drunk driver arrested after crash broke wheels off car in Troy, police say
TROY, Mich. (FOX 2) - Troy police said a drunk man who crashed his car, broke off the tie rod and was missing two passenger side tires - and was also naked.
Police said it happened last Friday, March 22, a little after 6 a.m. on Rochester Road. Police said a broken down car was blocking the right lane. When police pulled up, they found the blue 2009 Chrysler 200 and it was missing both passenger-side tires, had a broken front tie rod, and was leaking oil. Police believe he hit a curb at a high speed.
"Officers got there thinking there's just a car blocking the road, they're going to help this person with their car," said Sgt Megan Lehman of the Troy Police Department.
When they walked up to the car, they found a 30-year-old Sterling Heights man sitting in the driver's seat, with nothing concealing the lower half of his body.
"He was nude from the waist down," said Lehman.
The man, later identified as Adam Lafave, told police he had driven from a friend's house in Clinton Township towards his home in Sterling Heights. When asked, he admitted to drinking alcohol a little more than 2 hours before police arrived.
Lafave was asked to perform multiple sobriety tests - which he did with a towel wrapped around his waist. Police said he performed poorly in those.
"He had no explanation why he wasn't wearing pants," said Lehman.
He was then given a breath test which returned a result of .165 - just under the threshold of being super drunk.
Lafave was said to be very cooperative. He was arrested and charged with OWI.
