Passenger dies after shot while in Uber vehicle

The Harris County Sheriff's Office is searching for a suspect in the deadly shooting of a rideshare passenger who was being picked up.

Deputies arrived to the intersection of Laurel Creek Drive and TC Jester Boulevard in north Harris County on Friday afternoon after an Uber driver contacted HCSO. That driver said the passenger was seated in the sport utility vehicle when someone walked around the driver side and immediately fired gunshots into the back seat.

Deputies arrived to a nearby shopping center to find the body of the passenger in the back seat. The driver was trying to drive away from the shooter as he was contacting HCSO.

HCSO describes the shooting suspect as a black male with shoulder-length dreadlocks who wore a white t-shirt and tan-colored pants. The shooter ran from where the shooting was reported but deputies have not determined if he entered another vehicle or is still in the neighborhood.

The Uber driver was not injured in the shooting.
