Pedestrians hit, killed by spinning vehicle
DETROIT (WJBK) - Detroit police say a man and a women were killed Saturday evening after they were hit by a car. Police say the 42-year-old woman and a 52-year-old man were struck while walking along the sidewalk near Cortland and 14th on Detroit's west side around 8:20 p.m.
Police say two vehicles were involved in an accident near that location, a Ford Explorer and a small silver sedan type car. The accident caused the Explorer to spin violently, right into the two pedestrians who were walking on the sidewalk.
Police say both victims were pronounced dead on scene.
The driver of the Ford Explorer ran away from the accident, but was soon later apprehended and taken into custody. Police say he showed up at a precinct trying to report the vehicle as stolen. Police noticed cuts on his hands and shards of glass on his clothes.
Police say no charges have been filed yet. The investigation continues.
The male victim has been identified as Dennis Marshall. His sister spoke to FOX 2 on the phone and says their family, including his eight children, are trying to come to grips with the loss.
