Pistons introduce Blake Griffin: 'This is where I want to be'
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (WJBK) - The Detroit Pistons introduced Blake Griffin today.
A five-time all-star, Griffin, 28, was acquired on Monday for for Tobias Harris, Avery Bradley, Boban Marjanovic, a first-round and a second-round draft pick. The first round pick is top-4 protected.
The Clippers included Brice Johnson and Willie Reed in the trade, as well.
"Shocked is a good way to put it," Griffin said. "I didn't know anything. I pretty much found out when everybody else found out. It took me a second to realize everything's changing. ... I want to hit the ground running."
Griffin was asked where he wants to fit in among Pistons legends, he said "Somewhere between Ben Wallace and Dennis Rodman."
He also spoke about getting to play with all-star center Andre Drummond.
"He's a well deserved all-star, a monster," Griffin said. "I played with DeAndre Jordan and he's bigger, more physical. I am excited about that growth and helping him."
Griffin was asked about the Clippers trade and if he regretted not having a no-trade clause.
"No I want to play for an organization that wants me to play for them. Clearly this is an organization that wants me to player here, This is where I want to be."
With his usual number 32 retired for Richard Hamilton, Griffin is switching to his college number, 23, with the Pistons.
Griffin is in the first year of a five-year, 173 million dollar contract. The 2009 first overall pick is averaging 22.6 points, 7.9 rebounds & 5.4 assists in 33 games this season. During his eight year career, Griffin is averaging 21.6 points, 9.3 rebounds, 4.2 assists & a shooting percentage of 51.2% from the field.
