Salvation Army community center opens in east Detroit

People on Detroit's east side are celebrating an important addition to the community.

The Salvation Army dedicated its new Conner Creek Corps Community Center located on Conner Avenue near Mack. The center provides social services, including after school programs, senior services, a food pantry and much more.

"Our mission is to bring hope (and) to see the revitalization that's happening all over Detroit," said Capt. Kelsie Moreno of the Salvation Army of Metro Detroit. "We want to see it happen here in the neighborhoods as well. So our mission is to see lives change to see people have hope be renewed and to meet the needs of this community as best as we possibly can."

The Salvation Army has been meeting the needs of people in Detroit for nearly 130 years.
